Hello Badger & Blade

Hello everyone,

The name is Shawn, and I just found this website. I have been looking for places like this to get my wet shaving fix.

I switched over from cartridge razors to DE shaving about 5 months ago. I am still getting setup with all of the things I need, but things are coming along nicely.

I started shaving with disposable razors back in the day. I switched over to Mach 3 when they came out, and I have been using them ever sense. That is up until about October 2015 when I got feed up with the cost of the replacement cartridges. I never could use electric razors. I am a bit to sensitive to be able to use them. I tried, I bought 3 or 4 of them threw the years, but it always ended in misery pretty quickly. I guess I would say I was always a wet shaver, but not in the traditional sense.

I started DE shaving with a box from Wet Shave Club. I got a razor, brush, and a couple of samples. Every thing was OK, but I quickly started wanting to get more of the top of the line stuff I was seeing in the youtube videos. With the advent of me starting to shave with a double edge razor, my grandmother gave me most of my grandfather's old shaving gear. What was still around that is. My grandfather passed away in 1991, about a month before I graduated high school. Here is what she gave me:
Gillette Tech ball end - One of the 40's non numbered ones
Old red and cream Ever Ready 150 brush - it needs re-knotted
Old translucent white handled brush - no name on it, looks like bakelite
Old shaving mug - perfect condition

And the rest of the gear I have picked up:
Wet Shave Club 3 piece razor
Satin Tip Purist synthetic brush
WSP High Mountain Silvertip badger brush
Above the Tie M1 and R1 baseplates with an Atlas handle.

As far as soaps and such:
Tabac soap and aftershave splash
Mitchell's Wool Fat
Soap Commander Fortitude soap and aftershave balm
Soap Commander soap sample set
Derby Chop Shop "Winter Reserve" aftershave (in the mail on the way)
Captains Choice aftershave sample set (in the mail on the way)

I am sure I am forgetting something, but that is what I can remember right now. It seems like a lot, but it isn't really. I am still very new at this type of shaving, and I am trying to find my place in it. As of right now, Tobac, and Soap Commander are my favorites. Soap Commander has the added advantage of being only about 30 minutes away. I want to like MWF a lot, I had gotten pretty good at lathering it, but I think i broke the soap, now lathering is not very good.

I am here to learn and absorb all of the knowledge I can.

Cheers!
