When I first started wet shaving, I purchased a Parker 96r. I thought that it looked really cool, I liked the long handle (I still tend to buy long handle razors) and it was relatively cheap. That being said, shaving with it was.. not exactly great. I tended to get alot of nicks and more burn than I would've cared for. As I bought other razors and my technique improved the Parker sort of fell out of my rotation. Not really a big deal.
However, this morning after not using it for months, I figured that I'd give it another go. What a surprise it was.
It gave me perfect shave with no nicks, cuts or burns. In fact, in the same amount of passes it fared far better than my Merkur Long Handle.
Looking back on when I stopped using it, I can't say that it was a bad razor, but that with my technique where it was at the time, I'd have cut myself using anything that I would've picked up.
It's always a pleasure to revisit a razor and have it our perform my expectations. I'd have been the first to speak ill of this razor, but nope. It was just me apparently.
