I'm writing this as my brush is soaking for my shave tonight, which got me thinking about something.
I got a blade sample pack for Christmas, which came with Feather, Astra, Derby extras, Personna reds, and some Crystal blades. So far I've used the sample Merkur blade, a Derby, and a Personna. I'm shaving every other day, and so far I've had trouble not annihilating my neck below my jawline. The best I've done was with the Personna, which gets us to the point of this post.
Everyone says that the Merkur 33c is a good beginner razor because it's mild. To me, the Derby and Merkur blades that I used were also mild blades, with the Personna being noticeably more aggressive. I find myself feeling the need to press into my neck with the more mild blades. Is this just a bad habit of mine, or will a mild blade (assuming my assessment of the blades is correct) in a mild razor produce this feeling? I'm sure more experienced shavers wouldn't have a problem shaving like this, but, is it something I'm doing wrong or is it actually just "harder" to get a good shave with a mild blade+razor?
Also, just for fun, what set up do you all prefer? Mild blade + mild razor, mild/aggressive, aggressive/mild, or aggressive/aggressive? Right now I'm feeling the Personna, so my preference is mild/aggressive!
