I said I was gonna do it and I did it! I turned my first pen! I've also wanted a fountain pen for awhile now so I knocked both out in one shot. I wanted a two barrel but the local woodworking shop only carries 2 single barrels, one in chrome & the other gunmetal, so I got both. Magnetic cap and I used the true fountain pen insides instead of an ink cartridge. Now I need a jar of ink! Sanded up through 12,000 grit and then Novus fine scratch remover followed by Novus plastic polish. I'm pleased with the finish, however the copper or brass tube shows through the acrylic! I will have to get another tube and turn another barrel and use the guts from this one, but it will do for now.
This was originally supposed to have a big leaf maple barrel, infused with blue dye. Unfortunately the end tore out of it about 1/2 through turning it down. In fact, just getting this pen turned took the whole weekend. Everything from a drillpress that wouldn't drill straight to missing bushings to my tailstock crapping out and a whole lot of other junk to boot. This was a true exercise in patience, but persistence perservered!
