I stumbled upon this forum a week ago and after reading through the posts I decided to order my DE shaving equipment. I got the Merkur Futur, mainly because of the adjustability (because I am new to DE shaving and have very sensitive skin), a best badger brush, stand, cream and soap and pre-after shaves. I also got a blade sampler since I have no idea what I like yet.

I was never happy with my shave. My face hair is not very dense but pretty stiff. My neck is a nightmare where the grain changes directions all over the place in an asymmetric way.

I own a couple of electric shavers including the crazy expensive Philips Norelco 9700. While the last one does a pretty good job it does not give me that feeling of freshness I so much like when wet shaving. Also the neck is a pain and takes about 10 minutes going over the same area many many times.

Cartridge shaving with Gillete works pretty good for me, but I sincerely think the pricing is ridiculous and after calculating how much money I gave Gillete in the last 12 months, I decided its enough. I also always used the canned foam or gel, never an actual shaving cream or soap with a brush.

So I got all my DE shaving gear after reading reviews, posts, etc. First try was pretty bad, with me using the setting 4 on aggressiveness, and pretty much cutting a piece of skin of. Second time was much much better using setting 1. I think I am getting the hang of it, and getting rid o a bunch of bad habits.

Thanks for everyone convincing me through their post to try out DE shaving. I really hope shaving will evolve in a enjoyable experience once I get the hang of it.
