So early last year I ordered the 1 KG tub of Myrsol soap. I had heard great things and some said it was even better than my beloved MWF. I made a post about the issues here http://ift.tt/1JoF9QA
Once it thawed it went from a solid brick of soap that it should be (which needs to be cut with a saw) into a goopy soupy mess. It was very runny with chunks here and there. Perhaps a yogurt consistency. The freezing somehow caused the water to separate from the soap, there was even a small puddle of it frozen on top of the tub.
I let it sit for a month hoping it would solidify and I could use it as normal. This did not happen. After sitting on my shelf a few more months I decided to put a small amount into another container and try letting the water evaporate before just chucking it. It worked well. It dried out, I pushed it down to compact it a bit then put more on and repeated several times. Fast forward a couple weeks I had put the rest of the tub into the other container and put it in the back of my shaving shelf to dry aaaaaand promptly forgot about it for about 6 months or so.... ish.
I recently found it when inventorying my den for a 2016 restraint. It had yellowed a bit on top but it seemed fine. I squished it down and compacted it fairly well. It is still soft but the volume of the lost water is HUGE. I put it into a 2 cup container and it is half to maybe 2/3rds full right now. The original container was at least 6 cups, probably closer to 8. So it is now a quite a highly concentrated soap.
Now for the fun bit. I gave it a 10 second load with my RR Plissoft brush. I was light handed and it was damp. It lathered very easily and fairly quickly but was quite thirsty. The borax smell is 99% gone. I would now say it is an unscented soap and is soft enough to be mixed with whatever scent I want. The lather was fairly dense and extremely slick on my hand. Plenty of lather for a shave and the amount loaded showing from the puck is negligible. I bet it would last at least a year of daily shaves at that rate.
So in the end I managed to save it and it seems to be like a decent soap. Would any of the soap makers here know is there any reason why there is such a large amount of water in their soap? I would say it lost 75% of its volume.
