Hi,
Recently I’ve been thinking about switching to DE shaving and have been reading about it for the past week or so, figuring out how to start, what to buy.
Little bit of backstory: I’ve been shaving for the past 15 years or so, pretty much just with a canned gel or cream (prefer cream) and disposable razors or gillette mach/fusion (1 pass + touchups) and finishing up with a moisturizing cream (since my skin gets really really dry after shaving). I don’t have a thick beard, as a matter of fact, I can’t even grow a decent beard, after a few days I look like I had to run for my life in the middle of shaving :) I also don’t shave every day, but every second day and never bother with BBS, just end up with decent enough shave. It just doesn’t grow that fast.
So, why do I want to switch to DE shaving? Because I’m getting tired of dry skin and bad shaves. And I think it’s staring to show on my skin. If I make it fun, challenging, I’ll put in the effort to do it properly and I’m hoping my face will thank me for it on the long run and that's where the DE razor comes in.
But since I haven’t even tried DE shaving and one has to start somewhere, I’m hoping you guys can help me advise on a setup I’m gonna try with. I’m also doing this a bit on a budget, since as far as I understand, high-end tools won't make it any easier since I lack in experience and knowledge. (Haven’t bought anything yet, so feel free to suggest something else).
Razor: Muehle R89, for some reason looks best to me. Have also considered, Merkur 34C HD, EJ DE89. (I do want ATT or Feather AS2 but they are outta price range for just an experiment)
Blades: Going to get one of those sample packs and try out different kinds and experiment, see what feels best.
Brush: Omega 10005 Boar (should I go with badger?)
Soap: Proraso sensitive
Aftershave: Nivea Sensitive
Comments, thoughts?
Thanks!
