Gents,
I am in the market for an entry-level AR-15. Here's what I want: Carbine length, free-float government profile barrel, chrome lined barrel, 5.56 chambering, flattop, preferably Mil-spec parts groups (particularly the buffer tube, since it influences furniture). My plans aren't much. Iron sights at first to improve marksmanship, then upgrade to an optic. I would like to purchase a complete gun, not build one from parts (I'm on a limited budget and don't have the funds to purchase the needed tools, plus I lack gunsmithing skill). This leads me to some questions.
I have seen another thread on here where shooters expressed their love for Windham. I didn't want to hijack the OP's thread, so I created my own. I have looked at Windham, Core-15, Doublestar, Palmetto State, Smith and Wesson, and Colt. Colt seems to be the higher end of price, while Windham and Core-15 are the lower.
Has anyone had any problems with the aforementioned brands? Any testimony, information, or observation that would sway your opinion? I don't want to spend my money on a gun that is poorly made, is a rattle-trap, or uses inferior materials (I've seen some ARs sporting polymer lowers...NOPE). Any help is welcome, and thanks so much.
