I have a couple of Whippeddog badger brushes I LOVE to use but both have a common problem, shedding! The first, a 24 mm high mountai badger had a defect from the beginning (Larry confirmed) that led to eventual shedding so bad I would end up with huge amount of hair on my face after lathering. Larry replaced this brush with a cool new 30mm high mountain in a firehouse pottery handle.
I have been very careful to lather without pressure so hard as to splay the bristles too far (on my face or in bowl) but I continue to get shedding after more than 2 months. The shedding isn't as bad as the one that had an odd defect but I get anything from a few to a dozen hairs each time. I can even comb or sweep the bristles with my fingers when they are dry and get more loose hairs.
So I ask could my method of use lead to continued shedding of this type?
I soak in s bowl of warm tap water prior to use. Lather on my face or in a bowl using small circle type brush movements that don't splay the bristles much (the new brush is set a little deeper than the first, if that matters). I do tend to squeeze out lather for a clean up pass or at least as part of my brush cleaning/rinsing routine. I rinse by submerging into the bowl/sink with clean cool water and agitating until it appears clean. I dry by squeezing out water then shaking (usually this will make the bristles fan out nicely, and often I get a loose hair or two pop up as a result). I then set the brush to dry bristles up, my first brush was always dried bristles down. Usually at the end of the day the brush is dry and I will comb the tips lightly to loosen and make them look nice.
So am I an abuser?
