Recently a friend of ours was in England and had asked if there was anything I'd like brought back. I suggested D.R. Harris Arlington Soap and a bottle of Trumper's Wild Fern cologne as I've read great things about both and was anxious to try them. He returned with the Wild Fern cologne (excellent) and G.F. Trumper Eucris soap in the black wooden bowl. I quite like the Eucris soap fragrance, but the lather is absolute garbage. Now, I can lather all the easy ones like Proraso, Cella etc, (really, who can't?) even Williams... but this stuff is just awful. Nothing seems to work. Blooming the puck before, using a stiff boar, using a soft synth, palm lathering, bowl lathering, face lathering, warm water, hot water, cold water, about the only thing I haven't tried is holy water. Lately I've been showering after shaving and I'm seriously considering just using the less expensive/easy lathering products for the shave without regard to scent matching as I'll be washing that off in the shower anyway, and going to the higher priced scents in colognes and aftershaves only. Gotta say though, I'm pretty surprised that an expensive soap performed so poorly.
