I have been shaving everyday with a DE for the last year. In that time, I have only tried a few different blades. My first blades were CVS blades (made in Israel, so Personna Reds), Astra SP, Feather and Wilkinson Swords. All of these were first tried in a Parker 96R and then in a 1955 Gillette Blue Tip.
The 1st were the CVS blades, they were OK, but I still had blades to try out.
Next were the Astras, more comfortable than the CVS blades and MUCH cheaper.
Next were the Wilkinson Swords (German), they were OK...not as smooth as the Astra SP, but worked better in my Blue Tip.
The Feathers worked even better in the Blue Tip, but were VERY expensive and I only got 3 shaves from each one.
I have since acquired a Parker 97R, which has become my go to razor and recently a 1969 Super Adjustable (short handle).
My favorite has been Astra SP, they shave well and comfortable at a great price, so why change? Well, I have just ordered a 100 count of Personna Lab Blues for what I think is a very good price, so I decided to use up my stock of Feathers and Wilkies. In doing so, I have discovered that my technique has gotten better and the Wilkinson Swords shave more comfortable than the Astras and the Feathers last much longer than they did 8 months ago. I just finished shave 6 from a Feather, but it was not as good as the 5th shave.
My point is, early on in your DE experience, don't completely dismiss a blade just because it may not shave as smooth as you think a blade should. Find one that you can shave with and put the others away for a while. I never thought I had poor technique, because I rarely cut myself or got razor burn, but now I have figured out that I can use just about any blade, comfortably, where as before some were more comfortable than others.
