Well a few actually,I have noticed a few posts about cold water shaving the past few days and thought why not lets see what the fuss is about.I used all the products that I knew were sold performers for me,SC Courage,Semogue 1305 and a EJ 89 loaded with a Astra SS.The exact same routine only cold water substituted for hot water for my shave.
I noticed right away more tugging of the hair but not so much as if I was on the 5th or so shave with a blade,trying to stretch out ever shave from it lol.First pass WTG was good,more stuble left behind than normal.Second pass WTG was a lot better,so far so good no raised bumps or irritation.Final and clean up pass ATG very smooth.
I start my post shave thinking great no redness or irritation this may be the ticket for me,until the alum block hit my face.Instant burn,just like when I was just starting out with my DE shaves.Quick splash of witch hazel and it calmed down quick.Other then the intense burn from the alum block I had a very smooth comfortable shave.No redness or bumps to speak of,which strikes me as weird going by the feed back from the alum.
Now for the questions,what type of soaps do you guys that wet shave tend to use,tallow,glycerine,veggie etc.?Is your water hard,purified or treated in any way?Pre shave oils or the like?
As a HVAC/Plumber by trade I wonder if the guys and gals who prefer cold water shaves over hot water shaves are because of the extra minerals that are in the hot water due to the heating process and the massive accumulation of minerals left behind in a older water heater tank effecting their soaps performance somehow.My thinking is not including those who shave with cold water because it feels good when the temps are high in the summer time,just those with performance issues with products.
I am sure I will continue to use cold water from time to time with different soaps to see if I find more benefit to my shaves other than it feels great in the high temps.
