Hi all, new to DE Shaving and B&B. I’ve garnered some good info here on my quest to improve my shaving experience and figured it was time to join in the forum.
I started DE shaving about 2 weeks after finally having enough crappy shaves from cartridge razors and quite frankly I am amazed at the difference. I simply cannot believe people abandoned this method of shaving.
I remember back in the early 70’s when I was just a boy standing next to my dad in the bathroom with him slapping some shaving cream on my face and handing me a DE razor (no blade of course) to join him in his daily shave. I never gave much thought to why he stopped shaving that way and why he never taught me when I needed to start shaving for real. I just started using cartridges from the start.
Anyway, here’s what I started with:
Merkur HD 34C
25 blade Sample pack (has some Gillette, Astra, BIC, Feather, Lord, Derby, Shark, etc.) Also just bought a 5 pack of Polsilver.
TOBS Sandalwood Cream
Duke Cannon Shave Cream (can’t for the life of me get this to lather)
Pure badger brush
So far I’ve had good success with minimal nicks and cuts. I typically shave 5 days a week, Mon-Thurs and Saturday. I would say I have an average beard, not too course and not too fine.
Anyway, that’s my shaving life in a nutshell. Thanks for the info that I’ve received so far and I’m sure I’ll have many more questions and hope to be able to contribute back.
