I'd like to give a shout out to RazorPlate for really fine service.
I had settled on a Gillette NEW LC as my daily shaver, but it was one of those with the gold finish half on and half off, making it look pretty grungy. I thought about buffing it down to the brass/copper base, but I much prefer a silver finish. One problem: The cap had a very deep scratch that even the best replate would not hide, or so I thought.
I decided I could live with the scratch, so off it went to Chris for a nickel replate. He emailed me when he received it and said, yes, it was unlikely the gouge would come out because of its depth, but he'd do what he could. I wasn't really sure what to expect because this is my first experience with replating.
After he was finished, he emailed me and said he was able to do better than he thought. I got the razor back yesterday and the scratch is all but gone! I can just about make it out if I put it under bright light and put on my reading glasses.
Chris said that he was able to mostly fill in the scratch by first replating the cap in copper before doing the final coat of nickel. The whole thing looks really nice. I'm surprised how bright it is. I can't imagine how rhodium can be much brighter.
The charge for the added copper plating: Free.
I'm not much of a photographer, so these pix don't really do it justice. I sincerely wish I had taken "before" pictures so you could see the transformation, but unfortunately it didn't occur to me.
Needless to say, I recommend RazorPlate.
