My R41 review
Update:
Woke up an extra 30 minutes earlier so that I could really take my time.
Razor: Muhle R41 AKA "the beast"
Blade:
loaded it with a feather blade (they're my favorite)

I purchased this razor for $42 from the luxury barber through Amazon.
packaging: 6.5
Wasn't overly impressive, standard cardboard box that displayed the razor through a piece of cellophane on the front. Every time I receive a new razor I always wish that it cam in a hard, leather wrapped hinged box, maybe with a blade holder like the razors of old. This wasn't the case.
Estetics: 9
A splendid looking razor. Beautiful plating, knurling, shape and design....what I have come to expect from Muhle. I am begging to think that Mules fit and finish and quality control are without rival. Truly without flaw, not what you would expect from a $42 razor.
Weight and mechanics: 9.5
Some have stated that the handle of the R42 was to lite, I didn't find that to be the case at all. The balance and weight sang of quality and craftsmanship. Disassembly/reassembly was a breeze and the blade fit in perfectly.
The results: 9.5
After loading the blade and taking a look It became immediately obvious this was a whole different animal than anything I've used in the past. What was I about to get myself into? I receive fantastic results with my current rotation and they are not near as intimidating so why change?
Answer, simple.....because I am a man.
We love challenge. We love to brave new territories.....to conquer!!! To tame that which cannot be tamed!
Pass 1: wtg
As I carefully put this razor to my face I was anticipating (because of its reputation) a bit of discomfort. The R41 dispelled that myth halfway through my first downstroke.
Could this his be the feared monster of fabled legend avoided for its aggression and feared for its bite?
The razor seemed to "guide" my hand to the appropriate angle almost as if it "wanted" to go there. There was no "figuring it out" you immediately get a "there it is" feeling while searching for the angle and then you realize, there was no search at all, you are just there. To me this screams of incredible balance and near perfection in design. No Knicks, weepers, or tug and pull feeling. How could this Animal provide such a comfortable shave?
Pass 2: ears to center
With a delicate hand I proceeded to my second pass. Surely the bite was coming. Halfway through I realized I was truly applying zero pressure, the razor was truly doing the work for me.
Pass 3: AGT
The real test. I'm still in disbelief at the amount of comfort and ease in which this razor operates. The combination with the feather blades seem to be a match made in heaven. My confidence is growing, I haven't shaved my face off!
Touch up:
When I do my touch up I apply the lather to my face with my left, bare hand feeling for whiskers and follow behind with the razor. As I was searching I realize, "this is the cleanest/closest 3 pass of my life". Confidence soaring at this point and my speed begins to quicken
,as I find a small patch that could maybe stand a small amount of attention I attack.
To quick, to fast, to confidant, to soon. A little reminder that this is a razor to be respected. A weeper on the touch up...how embarrassing.
Overall:
I will keep this summary simple. This was simply the closest, most comfortable shave of my short DE shaving life. This razor shouldn't be feared or avoided for its aggression, it should be respected. I would only recommend this to people who desire the best stinking shave of their life. Near perfection!
