I've finally got my first (and part of my second) successful honing in the books! I met up with Rick (wid) yesterday and had a chance to learn from a real pro. He was able to guide me through my first razor, and did some amazing work on a project razor that I picked up from an antique shop. This morning I tried out the razor I was working on and it really shaved like a dream. We went with a lapping film progression and finished on diamond spray. That razor glided through my whiskers with no problem! One thing I learned above all else is that all of the reading and YouTube videos in the world simply cannot substitute putting a blade to the stones and just practicing. Oh, and having someone who knows what's going on showing you how to do it helps a ton. I would highly recommend to anybody that's new, if another member is pretty close by, see if they'd be willing to meet. You'd be amazed at how much more you can learn in just a few hours. Thanks again Rick! You've just opened pandora's box of a whole new obsession, I mean hobby, for me!
