Newbie Check-In. Any DE shaving tips?

Hi guys, I am new to this site. I love reading about all the different options in soaps and razors. So thanks for all the help.

I'm 30 and have been shaving with carts and canned goo since I was about 13. Started out with Bic disposables and Edge gel. My first razor was a Gillette Trac II when i was probably about 15 or 16. I mostly switched between Barbasol shaving cream and Gillette foam throughout the years. About four years ago I threw out my Trac II after seeing a black and white picture of myself at a wedding that looked like I had 3 days of stubble even though I had shaved that morning. I knew there had to be a better way.

I started off by switching to shaving soap. My first purchase was a .99 cent puck of Williams Mug Shaving Soap and a Van Der Hagen boar brush. I bought the Gillette Fusion Pro Glide which had just come out at the time. I noticed a lot of improvement, especially the difference between soap and canned goo (which I haven't used since), though the cost of the Fusion carts is less than desirable. I later switched to a Vulfix badger brush and have mostly switched between Williams, Edwin Jagger, and Van Der Hagen soaps since they are the three most readily available brands in my neck of the woods in Wisconsin.

I came upon this site after looking for tips for different shaving soaps mostly. I bought an old fashioned shaving mug on Ebay that came with a free beat up old GEM 1912 razor. It was in pretty bad shape, so I ordered another one off Ebay in near perfect condition for about 50 bones. The results from my first shave with this razor were pretty rough. I returned to B&B for some more tips on SE shaving, and heard the praises of DE shaving. While I love the GEM 1912 razor, I decided to give it a shot and bought a Edwin Jagger Ivory DE Razor. It was slightly easier to shave with than an SE, but it is still taking some time and practice.

So I decided to join B&B a couple weeks ago to ask if Williams soap was being discontinued.

On another thread I've been going over the fact that I have to shave every day before work, which has made me leery of shaving with the DE because of the amount of time it takes to get a DFS or BBS shave. I still use the Fusion carts before work every day because I can get a pretty smooth, clean shave with one pass and some touch ups, where as I need at least two, if not three or four passes with the DE get the same results in twice the amount of time.

Does anyone have any DE tips? Or is time consumption just a part of DE shaving and I need to start getting my ass out of bed earlier? lol. I do have a pretty thick dark beard with fair and sensitive skin, so I imagine multiple, somewhat gentle passes are necessary. But I would like to start DE shaving every day if I could, due to the amount of cashola I could save on Fusion carts, and I have heard the DE defenders claims of the superiority of the DE. Thanks.

P.S. I would like to move on the Straight someday, but I don't think I'm there yet.
