Hi Guys,
I will be visiting Los Angeles for a week in September, specifically the Anaheim area and am informed the general L.A. public transport system is not really up to the standard of say New York subway etc. For this reason I am considering renting a car for the part of the trip, as I like a challenge and to enable me access to areas such as San Diego, San Francisco bay area and the like. Is there any other places I should consider visiting?
Is it worth getting a rental deal at LAX airport when I arrive or somewhere maybe more local to the area Im staying? I have the option of adding a transfer from the airport to the hotel as part of the flight deal so I am thinking it is possibly not worth doing this, unless there is a significant cost saving. How much am I likely to spend for say 3-4 days, plus fuel costs, tolls etc. if I am planning on going to the previously mentioned areas? Thinking of something about the size of a Chrysler 200 can you guys recommend anything that may be more suitable?
Most importantly - do rental cars come with Sat-Nav as a standard feature or do I have to supply my own? This will be my first time driving in the States and would like to be able to find places relatively easily. I dont mind manual map reading, although would have to stop every now and again to check the maps which could slow things down a bit.
Apologies for all these questions, but as said this will be my first time driving in the USA. As mentioned I have been to NYC before, however we just got the Subway to everywhere we wanted to go and avoided the roads altogether. Difference with this trip is that I am the only traveller and as such I can afford to make some personal touches to the trip.
Thanks,
R.
