I am a big fan of the 7x57 (7mm Mauser) cartridge. I have a Ruger #1 single shot in 7x57 and it is a nice light accurate rifle. I have wanted a military version for a while, and I settled on this 1928 Oviedo Spanish M93. A little beat up, and I know there are nicer ones in better condition out there, but this one has lots of character. The bore is in great condition. I fired some factory loads and got some 3/4" groups at 50 yards with the original iron sights. I think I'm going to leave it as is. It would just not be right to alter it. If I end up wanting to shoot it a lot, I may put a scout scope mount on it where the rear sight goes and thus not have to butcher it up. I really like some of the old military rifles. The workmanship is just great for a near 100 year old rifle.
