Hello there, I've been lurking B&B for a while but just recently got my first DE (EJ DE89L) and shaving has been really fun. However, I've been getting irritation in the areas around my mouth. I've been trying out different blades and so far have used 7O'clock Super Platinums, Silver Blues, Derby Extra, and Feathers. And have been using Proraso red and just received my Cella tub yesterday.
I face lather and since the water here is pretty hard, I take my time building a thick lather adding water when needed using an Omega pure boar brush. I take my sweet time ensuring I don't cut myself. I'm fairly new so my shave consists of only 2 passes, WTG and XTG (ear to nose). I've started out using an alum block but that just irritates my entire face to no end for at least 12 hours so that's in permanent storage.
Any tips or specific products to try to prevent this irritation or even reduce it? It's extremely annoying. Prior to this I've been shaving in the shower with canned Gillette gel and a triple blade Schick disposable, and I'd only get minor irritation in random spots sporadically. I might try shaving like I was before to see if it's caused by my DE shaving routine?
Any hints/tips/tricks would be greatly appreciated!
Edit: I forgot to mention that I use Clinique for Men Moisturizing lotion after a cold water rinse when I'm finished shaving.
