I've been reading the boards about honing, and have watched a bunch of videos on YouTube, but I'm still not sure of the answer...
When honing a blade, how do you know the angle to hold the blade at? Do you keep contact between the edge and spine? I saw someone put electrical tape on the spine (to prevent scratches?) but not sure that this means that the spine is supposed to run down the hone. It seems as though that might damage the spine or hone. If the angle is determined by the spine/edge contact, then wouldn't wedges have a different cutting angle than full hollows?
Apologies if this is common knowledge.
