Hello,
I started DE shaving, in fact, shaving by myself, in February. I bought a cheapo brush, cheapo cream, and cheapo DE with 5 Gillette 7 O'Clock Blacks. In four months, I cut myself only once, and that was because I forgot to move the razor from my face when I turned my face.
Later, I bought a very cheap locally produced pack of blades called Wilkinson Sword. I had not expected them to be very good, at 2p apiece, I did not expect it to even properly cut hair. It however, worked well, and was just a bit rougher than the 7 O'Clock blacks. I managed to get three nicks in two months.
I began to believe that I had thick skin and could get away with any blade, as I had heard that these blades were not very good.
My confidence was shattered when I used, for the very first time, the Derby blades that came with my Edwin Jagger. I whipped up a superior lather and proceeded to shave with a WTG pass. My god, it was excruciating. I have never felt such discomfort before. I could complete only one pass before I gave up. I was left with three nicks, a whole lot of irritation, a terrible shave and intermittent patches of stubble. I did not dare try to complete the shave with a better, more tried and trusted blade for my face felt raw and in bad shape.
Never ever trying Derbys again. Ever.
