Another initial thoughts on Feather post

So I used my first Feather today and I guess I was just a little let down due to the buzz it generates here. Now, it's not that it was a horrible shave in the least, but I kinda had the impression that I would either feel I was shaving with Excalibur or a rusty knife from what you seem to see here. What I ended up getting was a decent shave, no nicks or wheepers, but it didn't seem to cut as smoothly as I figured it would. In my Slim on 1 I find that Derby, Astra, and PolSilver just feel like they are gliding but the Feathers felt like they were cutting cleanly but I could feel resistance and a lot more feedback from the blade than I had anticipated with such a sharp blade. I'm not sure if it was due to prep but I showed, used Noxema and MWF so that is usually a good setup for me.



I know that they are as sharp as it gets but I just didn't find it a very smooth shave compared to others and the post shave there was a moderate amount of irritation that took about 10 minutes to go away. Not horrible but compared to my favourite Russian blades it was disappointing. On the plus side, it was certainly a very close shave, one of the best I've ever had.



I find them a good blade but nothing special. I would put them in my second tier of blades but I doubt I will buy them again unless I find they improve with my technique later and I suddenly fall in love. They are just too expensive for me to justify the performance I got today. But what I'm wondering is if it's the blade or is it that it just doesn't go well with a Slim set very low?
