I have been doing a blade search (2 weeks per blade type) for a Muhle R89 and chose to use Valobra Almond soft soap and a consistent pre shave prep.
I have already consumed maybe 2 bars (150g each) of Valobra Almond without issue.
I am testing the blades from least sharp to most sharp and now I am getting to the point that on each pass the sting from the soap is increasing. I do not get the stinging sensation from the following soaps: Williams, VDH Deluxe, VDH Luxury or Cremo Cream.
How can I determine what is in the Valobra that would cause this issue? Could there be something else at play?
I hate to abandon this soap because it is producing very nice results and is a snap to lather. Your thoughts on this please?
Here are some other facts you might want to know:
I shave daily and sometimes 2x per day.
The shave prep is: Wash with Nivea Moisturizing face wash, massage for 1 minute, rinse, wash with Nivea Moisturizing face wash, massage an additional 1 minute and leave on face, make lather and then lather over the top of the face wash. No more trapped hair.
4 pass shave with touchups.
I also avoid the hot water hydration and stay warm/cool.
The problem began to surface when testing the Astra SP blades and does about the same with Personna Lab blades.
Best Regards,
Gene
