Fighting Cock bourbon - Yay or Nay?

OK, in spite of the suggestive title, this is a serious question. I have a friend in another state who swears by Fighting Cock bourbon. He says this high-rye bourbon is a great value pour. My normal daily drink is Old Grand Dad Bottled in Bond and he swears FC is as good or better as the OGDBIB. Are there any drinkers of this lower shelf bourbon out there? If he lived closer, I could have him come over and we could do a side-by-side. It's certainly not a big investment to get a bottle (around $16 here in North Texas), but if I buy hooch, I feel I have to drink it all, even though I may not like it. One of the great sins in life is wasting whiskey.
