Greetings!
My new Semogue 830 arrived today from Shavetools via Amazon. I am eager to try it! I read all the Shavewiki information when I started out a few weeks ago with my first brush, an Escali Pure Badger. I did not do any of the breaking in, I just started using it. Well, I read through it all again, and the breaking in instructions (soaking with dish soap) all seems to be aimed at overcoming foul odor. I detect no foul odor with this brush, and even my wife, who has an extremely sensitive nose, smells nothing. I haven't wet the brush yet, its still pristine from its package.

Questions:
Thanks as always for all assistance! I expect from what I am reading around here that the Semogue 830 is better than my first brush, the Escali, but I am really interested in seeing the actual difference! I know it will take some time for the brush to break in and I want to really take good care of this brush so I can get the most out of it. In case anyone asks if I am a face or bowl latherer - I am not anything yet ;-). I have been loading in a mug then attempting to lather in a bowl. I have tried face lathering with Arko and now Proraso, and I am willing to try pretty much anything to see what works. So far I think I have had the best results lathering in the bowl, although I find face lathering a little faster - but I am probably doing things wrong...

Questions:
- For the sake of the brush itself should I do this breaking in, or is it alright to just start using it?
- I read some conflicting opinions on this here already, but I will ask anyway - is it better for the brush to hang in a stand to dry, or is it okay to just squeeze it out and give it a light shake then stand on its base?
- to extend the previous question, the only way the 830 will hang in my current stand is right on the junction of the knot and the handle - there is no "waist" in the handle like the Escali on which to hang the brush. Is it alright to hang the brush by the knot like this?
- I also thought I read here somewhere not to put the brush in water too hot to touch, but then in the shavewiki I see instructions for soaking in boiling water - is it really ok to use water that hot on my brush?
- I also saw in one thread here where a brush was apparently damaged from being used too roughly. What is a good way to gauge this? I am still learning how to lather and I don't want to damage my brush trying too hard. I know it didn't exactly cost an arm and a leg, but I am already getting attached to the little fellow even before its first use. :001_rolle
