Over the past few months I have ordered lunch for several of my customers. It is nothing fancy, just pizza and soda for the shops. On one occasion the owner actually delivered the order to the shop. I had never met him and assumed he was a driver, and I tried to tip him. He very politely declined the tip and said he just appreciated my business and it was not necessary to tip him or any driver.
The deliveries for the most part have been on time and the drivers have been polite. I use one of two locations for deliveries, depending where the shops are located. One shop has been very forward about wanting me to order from them, as I am sure they have revenue numbers they are trying to reach.
Here is where I got a little miffed. I was unable to go in and order the pizza as I usually do and just phoned in the order. After reviewing the order, the person on the other end of the phone asked me if I wanted to add a tip. I declined and as I hung up it hit me. The owner had specifically told me a tip was not necessary and the person answering the phone solicited one.
I realize the person on the phone probably had no idea that over the last few months the total has come close to 700.00 plus on orders. Not a huge amount, but I am sure that most businesses would take it. Should I say something to the owner or just let it go?
