problem with Jager razor

I am fairly new to using a DE razor (well new in the sense that I started shaving with one in the 60's, but have just returned in the past year or so). I have a Merkur and a Jager razor. The Merkur gives a good smooth shave with nary a nick or cut, but with the Jager I get a nick or cut every other shave. I try to make sure to use the same lathering and shaving technique each time I shave.

Any suggestions or opinions of what the problem could be? I have pretty much stopped using the jager until I can figure out what I am doing wrong.
