Vintage post-war non-potmetal Tech in good condition is my standard suggestion for people just starting out. I really like them. They are well-made, look nice, and provide a great shave with the right blade for many different kinds of beards and faces. I dislike most of the inexpensive modern mild razors such as Feather Popular (can't get a BBS shave even with a Feather blade) & EJ 89 (chrome handles are very slippery if any water or lather gets on them). Yet, both the both the Heavy Tech and Ball-End Tech I have are excellent mild razors and I can achieve a BBS with either of them.
If you want a TTO, a Ranger Tech, no date code '46-47 Aristocrat, or 40's style Super Speed would be my recommendation. All are quality mild shavers like the Techs, but they have some extra heft to them.
