For my second post, I thought I'd do a brief review of the cream I used today, and have been using for a while now, Vulfix Sicilian Lime. I've been wanting to try a lime-scented cream for some time. I know Castle Forbes is regarded as excellent, and I'm definitely going to try some one day, but didn't want to spend that amount of money on my first lime cream. Anyway, Vulfix:
Packaging:
The packaging is adequate, but nothing more. I like the label design on the lid, but overall it's a fairly uninspired rather squat-looking tub. It just looks a little cheap. Having said that, it does the job and the lid screws on tightly. 6.5/10
Scent:
When I first opened the tub, I was expecting and hoping for a natural lime scent - like if I had a fresh lime, cut it in half, and smelled it. This isn't like that. It's more of a lime sherbet; it's a little bit 'fizzy', if that makes sense, and smells slightly artificial. It's definitely sweeter than an actual lime smells - it doesn't have the sharpness of a natural lime which I was hoping for (by comparison, TOBS Grapefruit is a citrus scent which I feel is very natural smelling and does have that sharp, slightly bitter, tang to it).
Having said that, I quickly got used to it and actually now like it quite a bit. Whilst I would prefer a slightly more natural scent, it is still very pleasant and I definitely like to take off the lid and smell it every now and again. 7.5/10
Lather:
This is one of the thirstiest creams I've ever tried; it likes a lot of water.
A real plus point is that the cream really does explode with lather. You really do only need a small amount of product to generate a lot of lather, and it's better than many creams I've tried in this regard.
The actual lather itself is very nice, though it is slightly gelatinous when you first put it on your face. It also does tail off slightly (very slightly) on the third pass. The first two passes produce a really thick, yogurt-y lather which both looks and feels very nice, and provides a good amount of slickness, protection and cushioning for the shave. The third pass is very slightly (again, very slightly, I'm being really picky here) less good, it runs a bit thinner and I've noticed the odd air bubble. Though I don't want to give the impression that the third pass is bad, it's not at all, just not as good as the first two. 7.5/10
Slickness, Protection and Cushioning:
This cream is pretty good when it comes to these three criteria. Nothing stand out, so there's not much to say. I will mention, though, that I can think of a few other cream brands which do slightly better in this category. 7/10
Post Shave:
For the first 5 or 10 seconds after finishing, the post shave on this feels a bit off. Maybe it's because the product is a bit gelatinous, but it feels almost 'gloopy' for the first 10 seconds or so. After that, however, it becomes surprisingly good. It feels very pleasant and moisturising, I like it a lot. 8/10
Price:
I bought this cream on Amazon at £10 ($13) for 180g (6.3 oz or 225 ml). For English products, which are generally more expensive than other products, I think that's a pretty decent price, though by no means a bargain. 7/10
Summing Up:
Overall, I like this cream a lot. It definitely not my favourite, but I like the scent and performance enough to go out an buy it again at some point in the future. The best points are the amount of lather generated and the post-shave feel, and the drawbacks are that it seems to tail off a bit in quality by the third pass, and the packaging. 7.25/10
