so I got home from my shift (21 day) and a bunch of my mail orders were waiting for me! I got this little no name Barbers hone from Larry. I like the idea behind Barbers hones so I've been wanting to give them a try for a while. This one is first up.
As a reference I use Naniwa SS up to 12k as my regular so that is what I will compare to.
It feels pretty smooth and from the feedback I would guess 8k ish. My razor was getting a little dull after @ 12 shaves and only stropping on leather.
I gave it 10 light passes on lather followed by 30 linen and 80 leather. Gave it a test shave on 48hr beard. The razor definitely is sharp again. Maybe not quite as sharp as off the 12k, but cutting with ease got me my happy serviceable shave one pass. It is not as smooth but still comfortable. No razor burn or discomfort. If I was not used to better I would be perfectly happy Shaving off this edge the rest of my life.
Verdict. Success! Good option for travel kit for me.
