I offer up this head to head comparison of Stirling Soap (SS) versus Dr. Squatch (DS) bath bar soaps. Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with either company and am receiving no benefits or remuneration of any sort for this post. I am merely offering up my opinion of both products as a satisfied, paying customer.
Cost
SS: $4.25 for a 4-5 oz. rectangular bar. Occasional sales occur for $3.50 per bar
DS: $7.00 for a 5 oz. square bar. Refer a friend program generates $5 off coupon for every 5 referrals.
Ingredients
SS: beef tallow, palm oil, coconut oil, distilled water, olive oil, sodium hydroxide, essential oil, sodium lactate
DS: olive oil, coconut oil, soybean oil, hemp oil, shea butter, lye, essential oil, fragrance oil
Customer Service
Both companies ship quickly and communicate very well on the progress of the order via email. I've only had occasion to email SS with some questions. These questions were answered the same day by the owner of the company.
Latherability
Both products lather very well. I have neutral water (neither hard nor soft). I rub the soap bars onto my skin and follow with a wet wash rag. Both products produce very thick lather that washes clean. Both produce a lasting, peaked lather that I've considered shaving with, but have not actually done so.
Scents I Have Used
SS: Barbershop, Ben Franklin (meh), Orange, Pig Trail (my favorite), Tea Tree, Texas on Fire (hated it)
DS: Gold Moss (meh), Spearmint Basil (my favorite), Eucalyptus Yogurt
Neither product is scented heavily enough that the scent lingers on the skin post shower, at least my nose can not detect it.
Longevity
Both products last 2-3 weeks per bar of once per day bathing. Both products last longer if they are kept out of the direct flow/spray of water.
Additional
I typically shower and shave in the morning before work. I have very normal skin type, to the extent that even in the harsh winters of Ohio I only have to occasionally use a lip balm and hand cream and, even as a teen, I did not have problems with acne. Neither of these products dried out my skin. However, with the DS, the 'T Zone' on my face did seem to be a little on the oily side by late afternoon. This slight oily skin did not change with the various scents. As no one in my household has dry or oily skin types, I can not offer up any insight into how either of these products might affect your skin type.
Final Thoughts
I am happy with both products of would without hesitation recommend someone to try out either company. For me, I like SS best. They have a wider range of scents to choose from, cost slightly less, and I do not experience the late afternoon, slightly oily skin with their bars.
