OK, so I don't know if this could really be called an arkansas edge but I touched up my filly on a vintageish (don't know how vintage) trans ark that I scored on the bay.
The ark is only about 4 inches long and isn't completely flat (drops off ever so slightly on opposite corners) and I've not polished it like some say is necessary. I lapped it lightly up to 1500 grit w/d and sharpened a couple of pocket knives on it then I had at my filly and used it this morning.
The edge that was originally on the filly was probably off a JNAT (can't remember - sorry to all you that log the stone you honed on last) and it was starting to tug a little - did about 100 X strokes and some circles on the ark with some light lock oil (the stuff to lubricate stiff locks)
The shave was out of this world - like a really sharp coti edge, smooth, cut-proof and nearly zero irritation. Did a 3 pass WTG/ATG/XTG and nearly BBS - had to rush and no time to touch up.
Is this the type of shave to expect from an ark edge or is it possible that I've found the type of stone that suits my skin & technique?
