As I am Scot-Irish on my mother's side and Welsh-Irish on my father's, when I came across my newest acquisition I just had to have it.
It is a Knockcroghery clay with one side imprinted 1798 Remember 1998 (Irish Rebellion) and the other who fears to speak 98.
Loaded pipes, beer, and whiskey were served at many Irish wakes. According to the claypipe visitor centre and workshop of Knockcroghery, traditionally the shank was dipped in Guinness or whiskey to flavor and seal. I desperately want to give it a smoke, but what to keep it as a presentation peace. Perhaps just smoke on special Irish occasions.
Anyone have experience cleaning and maintaining a clay?
