After shaving with the Duplex, DuBarry and Dorset, I finally got to shave with the 300.
Not sure where it fits in the timeline and there's very little info on it anywhere else, but sequence dating suggests 1930s.
It's a convergence of Durham greatness, with an open long comb like the post-1911 Duplex and an angled head like the Dorset.
The two tone pearl and black celluloid handle looks to me like the epitome of earlier Art Deco design and it's much lighter than the DuBarry or Dorset.
Combine this with the open comb and you have a very nimble and manouverable razor.
Just like the Dorset, the angled head gives differential aggression - with the concave side of the handle towards the face you have an aggressive and efficient razor, with the convex side towards the face you have a milder but very responsive razor for fine trimming and ATG passes.
The geometry also makes the "Duplex Shuffle" possible so that you can shave WTG then ATG in a single backwards and forwards motion without changing grip.
I used a rehoned NOS DD blade and ( since the original cap was missing) a cap made from a sawn off Duplex head.
The result was yet another incredibly comfortable and enjoyable shave.
Just like all the other Durhams, the geometry of the 300 is spot on. You feel a big blade exposure and an aggressive shave yet weirdly it's very very difficult to cut yourself, and the big hollow ground blade just carresses the stubble off your face almost like it's massaging you!
For me all the Durham system razors essentially deliver the same great shave which feels very similar to the shave from an SE but with an added sense of comfort and relaxation.
And you have a choice of flavours with the straight style Duplex, DE style DuBarry or differential aggression style of the sprightly 300 and the weighty Dorset.
And they all just look so great too! There may be a prettier razor out there than the pearl and black 300 but I haven't seen it yet :)
