Yesterday I got myself a slant, ye olde Merkur 37c. I live in Chicago, so I was able to grab it form Merz, which meant I was able to compare it to the 39c hand-in-hand. I think I liked the handle length better of the 39c, but the latter was much smoother, and felt slippery dry, didn't want to imagine it wet.....and it was an extra ten bucks, so I abstained.
Anyways, I also treated myself to my first D.R. Harris soap (I went with Windsor....I tried my hardest to get some kind of scent from Arlington in the store, but couldn't smell a thing, and Windsor smelled delicious, so went with the proven commodity)- holy mackerel that's a nice soap. Lathered easily, beautifully. So protective; in short, it's reputation is well-deserved.
Back to the razor/shave: It was good! That's what I'll say. I got a seriously smooth shave, but my face definitely felt a little more raw than I appreciated afterwards (I had loaded a new Gillette 7 O'clock black, did two passes, WTG, XTG). The alum stung pretty good, but the Lucky Tiger/Nivea applications smoothed things over....just needed a little extra of those. I got no irritation in my typical trouble spot, the lower right portion of my neck (though I had a bit of a technique breakthrough a few weeks ago that's keep me pretty good there), but oddly enough the sides of my chin were a bit raw. Not cuts or weepers though. All in all I'm excited about the razor. I'll have to figure out the angle and technique a little better, I reckon, as well as blade combos, but it will more than likely be in my rotation, especially if I let my face go for a few days. I'm excited to see if it can be an every day shaver.
First shave with a slant!
