So my best badger Frank Shaving brush is on its last legs after 6 years of daily use and it's time to upgrade. I have decided to go with a whipped Dog Brush for my budget. A few questions:
1)I am looking for something with a good balance of softness and backbone used for hard soaps and face lathering. I am debating between the High Mountain and Black Badger right now. Is the Pure black badger as rough as everyone says it is? Am I wrong to dismiss the synthetic as a daily brush? I chose to consider the high mountain over the silver tip because it is said have more backbone and I read a lot of complaints over shedding.
2)What loft size would be recommended for both of these knot types? From countless hours of reading other threads it seems the standard advice for loft size is 1:2, so 30mm knot x 60mm knot, is this good for all whipped dog knots?
I have sent an email to Larry regarding these things but would also like to get some input from the community here if possible. Any advice and experience with Larry's Brushes would be much appreciated. Thanks.
