About three years ago I started wet shaving with the Micro Touch1. It was a convenient and cheap way to enter and, quite frankly, I had no idea this was gaining popularity. I did it because it reminded me of my father and it was cost effective and looked "fun".
First off let me say although I am no expert I had no issues whatsoever with the MT1. I enjoyed it and liked the butterfly open. On several occasions I thought about starting to upgrade and add to my tool box but never did. Over the past month or two, my MT1 started jamming on the butterfly knob where I needed a tighter, dry grip to open and close the butterfly. Is that normal to eventually happen with TTO? Also, is there a grease/oil fix to it or does this mean its eventually going to be shot?
Anyway, this was the perfect excuse to upgrade a bit. I ended up going with the Edwin Jagger DE89lbl. I know, nothing earth shattering there as its a popular first or second razor. I love this thing. I like the quality of construction and the less aggressive shave which is almost exact to the MT1. It looks really dressy and the biggest difference is the weight and letting the razor do the work. Overall, I absolutely love everything about it. The 3 piece construction the jury is still out on as I just had the TTO but I'll be fine with that.
I am hoping I can get years out of the EJ razor like I did with the MT1 (more than I expected). I do here the EJ wears down at the threads so we will see.
Going forward, my MT1 (if the open knob holds up) will be my travel razor and Im starting to think the excitement I now find in the EJ is going to lead to an accumulation problem now. I see myself "upgrading" more frequently. Up next? Perhaps a two piece? A better quality TTO? Vintage? Here it begins?
