Hi guys, signed up to get some info to my dilemma.
Im DE shaving for almost two year. I have come a long way. Alot of nicks and cuts but now getting
much better results. Still in learning phase.
So heres my question. Im using Progress adjustable. Slowly I have learned my 1st pass is at setting 5-6 to get
most reduction with least to non irritation. Then 2.5-2 setting 2nd pass for close shave. No 3rd pass. Just lil cleanup and touch up.
I have tried many blades, but so far non of the blades have given me more than shave and a half.
I shave every other day. In between days is my little neck clean up to give sharp look.
I did try to get 2 or 3 shaves with a single blade, but there was too much irritation.
Now, I shave once, do neck only next day and toss the blade.
Below is my log book for different blades.
currently im using Astra platinum and/or stainless on daily basis.
My beard coarseness is about 9 on scale of 1-10.
Thanks guys for any input on this.
DE Blade Review
Astra SS: 1 shave - Great sharpness and smooth. So far my #1 from sampler pack.
(1) Tie update: 2nd shave was ok. Wont last for more than 2 shaves.
Gillette Silver Blue: 1 shave: Love this blade. Def Top blade. (1) Tie
Astra Platinum: 1 shave: Great sharpness. And smooth too. (2)
Wilkinson sword: 1 shave - Good overall blade. Give nice smooth shave; not as sharp.
Gave me little tugging on XTG and ATG. (ATG is my clean up pass. I go ATG on areas which needs a bit cleaning). (6)
Gillette 7 o’clock super stainless: 1 shave: Very close to Wilkinson sword. Smooth and as sharp. Did get little nick on my neck. (I have very sensitive neck area). (4) Tie
Gillette Platinum: 1 shave: Dunt really remember but im sure good shave like other Gillette blades.
Gillette 7o’clock sharp edge: 1 shave: sharp blade. Not as smooth as super stainless. But sharp. (3) update: lasted for 2 shaves. 3 is pushing it.
Vidyut Supermax Super stainless: 1 shave: Not sharp. Hence smooth. Did not like the shave. Few nicks and cuts. Quite dull for my shave and liking. My least favorite. (8) Tie
Supermax Stainless: 1 shave: Good shave. Dial to 4. Close and clean.
Treet Platinum: 3-4 shaves: I got these from Pakistan. Local brand.
Not much difference from Supermax. Not sharp. Quite dull for my liking. (8) Tie
update: lasted for 2 shaves. Better with aggressive setting on shaving handle.
Treet Carbon Stainless (blk): 2-3 shaves: Got better results than Platinum, still not as sharp.
But got the job done. If I have to choose between Platinum or these. I would go with the carbon. But still not my first choice. (7)
Super Iridium Extra Stainless: 1 shave: These are sharp blades and little unforgiving.
Great close shave. Very quick in cutting wiskers. Sharp sharp blades. (4) Tie
Rapira Swedish supersteel: 1 shave: Sharp blade. N smooth. Little rough on neck but great blade. (3) update: lasted for 2 shaves.
Shark SS: 1 shave: Not as sharp but smooth blade. Did use it with higher aggressiveness.
Ok blade if nothing better is available. (5) Tie
Personna Lab Blue: 1 shave: Very sharp. But not as smooth as I expected. Got few nicks. (4) Tie update: second shave, not impressed. Too much irritation.
Rapira Super Stainless: Dont remember shave with these. **** update: tried shaving. Alot of pulling tugging.
Im assuming i got two shaves out of it.
Ladas: 2 shaves: First shave, only with the grain. Good smooth. 2nd shave, again, with the grain. Smooth. Not bad. Maybe I could get another before tossing it.
Derby Extra: 1 shave: smooth. But a bit dull for me. Not for me.
