Got this a few days ago and thought I'd share my thoughts.
Ingredients:
Stearic Acid + Tallow (from local, pasture-raised, 100% grass-fed cattle) + Water + Potassium Hydroxide + Sodium Hydroxide + Organic Castor Oil + Organic Glycerin + Organic Coconut Oil + Organic Avocado Oil + Lanolin + Silk + Essential Oils + Vitamin E
Scent Description (from manufacturer):
West Indies Bay + Key Lime + Labdanum + White Fir + Rosemary + Ylang Ylang
Scent(my nose): Grog is built around a classic Bay Rum. No cloves or spices here though. I get the Bay Leaves and lime right off the bat. I can also pick out the White Fir and Rosemary. I probably smell the Labdanum and Ylang Ylang also, but I don't know those scents. A sweet scent, but not sickly sweet. Very natural. It's a complex scent that doesn't overwhelm. Scent strength is about 6 out of 10. I also could not detect any tallow smell.
Packaging: Nice waterproof label on a simple white plastic tub. 4 ounces. Tallow + Steel logo imprinted on the soap. Nice touch. Tub is filled to leave about 3/4 inch of space at top for easy loading. Again. Nice touch. Soap is hard, but you can make a dent in it with your finger. Should last a while.
Lather: Very easy to build a nice thick lather. Soap can hold a lot of water so don't be shy. With the right amount of water it is a very slick soap. Scent stays with you during the shave.
Shaving: Just great. Smooth, slick lather makes the blade just glide. Left my face feeling fine. Not dried out like some soaps. Rinses very clean.
Overall: Very impressed with this soap. Complex scent and great ingredients. It's a little pricey, but I think it's worth it. I think I'll pick up their Rain Forest scent next. Tallow + Steel is a great soap that everyone should try.
