Weishi 9306E - Review

I'll be posting more of my collection (many of which will be PIF'ed or sold, as I don't need that many) in another thread, but I thought I'd throw this one out as a semi-review.

I paid $11, shipped, for a Weishi 9306E after doing some checking here and elsewhere. My reason for getting it was for the long handle, and to have a razor I could give away if necessary (while on a trip, for example). From the pictures, it was a TTO much like my '86 SuperSpeed. (more later)

It _appears_ to be primarily aluminum for the head, and some sort of vaguely handwavium copper (cuprum) alloy for the handle. It has some sort of steel rod running through the handle, probably for the weight, and an aluminum cap over the end so you can't tell what kind of fastener it uses. (and probably to avoid seeing the rust forming). How do I know it's steel? I have some large neodymium rare earth magnets, and they attracted the handle.

When I received it, I spent a while checking it over in various lights. With only very tiny differences it is a one to one copy of a late (black handle) Gillette Super Speed. The doors could be used interchangeably, except for being extremely light and thin. However, thin did NOT mean that it wasn't well finished. I couldn't find a sharp edge on it at all, except at the corners where there's supposed to be some edge. The knob is closer to a Slim adjustable knob than a flare tip or 40's SS, in that it's straight.

Shaving.

I pulled the Astra SP out of my '86 Super Speed, and inserted it into the Weishi. The Astra has been used four times previously - one in a FaTip (Yes, that's what it looks like) Piccolo to do some beard takedown, for the NASTIEST shave I've had in years, and three in the SS, for some of the best shaves I've had in years. It continued to give a very good shave, even in the Weishi for the 5th shave on the blade. No tugging, just the random scrape/popping of hairs being removed, transmitted through (I think) the really thin metal of the doors. As the three pass shave I did yesterday left my lower neck a bit red, I just did a single pass; that one is as good as most of the two pass shaves I've done with the standard random Gillette's that you can buy from Kroger/Wal-Mart/Family Dollar/CVS. Again, that's after using the blade four times previously.

So, I think I can say that at least _this_ Weishi 9306E is a good value for the money, and well built. I'll have to try it with some other blades, like a Derby or Shark.
