muhle organic review

(I copied the format of a previous review. I haven't heard Muhle Organic mentioned much, but it is my preferred cream so I decided to write about it.)

Background: I have very sensitive skin that tends to be irritated (burning/itchy sensations) with most creams (this is just while lathering even before a blade has touch the skin). I also prefer vegetarian-friendly creams, and organic would be a plus. I tend to prefer unscented or mildly scented creams. I have used only 3 creams in the past with any sort of regularity -- AoS, Gentlemen's Refinery, and most recently Muhle Organic for about 2-3 years. I have tried samples of several creams -- St. James, XPEC, D R Harris, Weleda, Castle & Forbes, La Cigale, and others.

Price- ~$25.00 for a 2.5 oz plastic tube at US stores. For some reason, you can get it at almost 30-50% off if buying from Europe (shaving.ie and Connaught Shaving). Unfortunately, not available in larger sizes.

Overall- 9/10
Scent- 10/10
Latherability- 9/10 (only tried as a face lather)
Performance- 8/10
Moisturizing properties- 9/10
Would buy again- YES (and still am)

Scent

For all practical purposes, this cream is unscented. I have used unscented creams that don't smell very good. This one smells clean and crisp.

Lather

I usually use about an inch squeezed out of the tube. The tube opening is very fine -- like a thin drinking straw. I use a L'Occitane Plisson Synthetic which lathers up super quick. The lather is of medium density. It is not as dense, as for example, St. James or XPEC, but it is decent. The lathering process produces zero irritation for my skin, so at least to me, it is as hypoallergenic as they come. Among all the creams I mentioned above, the only other ones that didn't cause any irritation were -- the Gentlemen's Refinery, La Cigale, and XPEC unscented.

Performance

This performs very well, as well or better than anything I tried until I tried samples from St. James. I realized then that it's possible to get a slickness and cushion that was superior to what I was experiencing with the Muhle. However, the trade off of skin irritation was not worth it. Other than that, the Muhle works very well with allowing to remove the hair with minimal razor burn (my razor is an AS-D2 and blade is usually Kai) and the skin doesn't feel too dry after the shave. It does feel a bit dry but that is because my skin is very dry in general. I am not at the point yet where I can go against the grain without nicking myself, so my shaves are usually CCS/DFS.

A minor plus is that unlike some other creams it doesn't clog the sink's drain.

Overall

I am really enjoying this cream and it has been steady, daily use, cream for 2+ years (maybe longer). It's a bit pricey if bought in the US, but the sites in Europe sell it for a lot less making it more affordable. I have not found any other cream that brings me as much pleasure to use, but I am still looking. :D
