After using a Feather AC for a while, I took my first real straight razor shave today. I got a modded Gold Dollar from a member of another forum that is reputable for doing fine edges. It was inexpensive, so as a beginner, I gave it a go. Stropped it according to the video lessons. Lathered up with some Razorock Dead Sea, and did my first pass. Everything was great. It felt good. No blood. I set the razor down on the vanity and picked up my brush to lather up for a second pass. During the lathering, the brush slipped out of my hand, hit the razor on the vanity, and both of them went flying off onto the tile floor. Because I did not drop the razor directly from my hand, as it was hit by my falling brush, the razor went off at a crazy angle and hit the floor hard. The tip of the razor broke off. Approx a 1" section of the blade came off. I am very thankful that I was not hurt in this incident, as it could have gotten ugly real fast. That razor went flying off the counter like it was shot out of a skeet pigeon thrower. So I grabbed my Feather AC and finished up my shave. The first pass with the SR went well. I will have to buy another straight razor at some point and try it again. I will chalk this one up to a weird accident, and no one got hurt.
