Hey there,
After years of cartridge shaving, bad irritation and ingrown hairs I've decided to make the switch over to DE shaving! After days of researching forums like this one, reddit, a metric ton of YouTube channels including Nick Shaves, PaulHFilms, Shave the Man, geofatboy, Kevy Shaves etc. I took the plunge and ordered a lot of the beginner recommended items.
Started with:
Merkur 34C
Astra Platinum, Personna Lab Blue, and some feather blades to try down the line.
Omega 63167 Stripey Badger Brush
Proraso White Pre-Shave & Razorock Oil of Lime to try
TOBS Grapefruit and Peppermint Creams, First Canadian Shave Company Taper Fade soap
Baxters of California After Shave Balm
Thoughts so far:
It is incredibly relaxing. I find that I am looking forward to shaving now! I find the selection of razors, blades, soaps, creams aftershaves very enticing and I've already orders a bunch more soaps and scents, RIP wallet!
I've just completed my third DE shave and my technique is improving steadily, although I'm still struggling on parts of my neck (my trouble spots as long as I can remember) as I have some weird growth patterns. I struggled a bit with lathering at first as I had some trouble getting enough lather and the right consistency in my bowl. Today I tried a face lather with my pre shave and some bloom water and that made things quite a bit easier but I think I may have irritated my neck a bit. I noticed my brush is a bit scratchy, hopefully that improves over time!
Any tips appreciated!
TL;DR - I'm new, this is exciting, RIP wallet, technique improving!
Thanks!
Newbie here, hey everyone!
