If you research well enough on this board, the number one issue you want to avoid is PRESSURE ON THE FACE.
The issue with the 34C is it is too light weight.
The 34C is recommended for new users. However, trying to just drag this head over the stubble, for new DE users, is pretty much impossible.
Using the 34C, with any success, practically demands force (pressure) put on the head. I don't care if you're using Feathers.
I have tried for years and have given up.
No doubt there are more experienced wetshavers than I who own the Merkur 34C and have success with them. But it is too lightweight for me to vouch.
For those of you out there who have had ingrown issues, and can use the Merkur 34C with no issues, you friends, are professional wetshavers. I tip my hat to you.
Research the boards. Hold it at the end. Let it do the work.

In my mind, the 34C set me back from my perfect shave by a couple of years. Just too light.
And it's not on Merkur. Just shaved tonight with their 39C. Excellent.
It would be nice if Maggard had a storefront in every town. They don't.
So what to buy? I'd go Parker 24C. Nice weight and cheap. Or email Maggard. I don't work for either.
Most folks on this board are here because they have ingrown issues. The Merkur 34C is a great razor. However it is too lightweight and for most new users, they will find themselves using too much pressure to get missed whiskers. Using that pressure will result in more ingrowns and those new users will go back to whatever instead of using the proper technique to defeat those ingrowns. JUST MY TWO CENTS.
Buy a heavier razor instead of the Merkur 34C. If you follow the instructions of mantic59 on youtube (g sharpologist) and Kyle here at B&B you will get quality shaves. I consider the Merkur 34C a razor of professional wetshavers, not newbies---again, my 2 cents.
And no, I am not a pro, which is why my 34C is collecting dust now.
