From now on, all my reviews (written and mental) will measure a soap, cream, or aftershave in Degrees from Speick (DFS).
Speick makes a wonderful workhorse product at a good price point. Any new product should be at least as good overall, or much better in one particular detail, or I'd rather just break out the Speick. And if a $60 cream can't beat a tube of Speick, at least in some subjective ways, it's off my list.
This isn't about money per se--I have no problem spending too much on this hobby--it's about "grade inflation" in our reviews and about setting a performance baseline. (Not every new soap is above average!)
I figure 1 DFS is 1 standard deviation. To wit:
La Toja regular cream: -1 DFS
La Toja stick: +1 DFS
Arko stick: 0 DFS
CRSW: 2.5 DFS
