I have finally truly begun my wet shaving adventures. I have been shaving with a cartridge razor for years, always with a horribly irritated neck as a result. This past fall I found the videos by mantic59 and it piqued my interest in traditional wet shaving.
Right away I got myself an Omega boar brush from Shoppers Drug Mart, along with some shaving cream from The Real Shaving Co. I started doing multiple passes, with WAY less pressure, and it definitely helped, but I still wanted to dive head first into shaving like a real man. I hesitated to buy a razor myself, just because it was getting close to Christmas though.
My parents came through, and bought me an EJ DE89, along with a sampler pack of blades, and a puck of EJ shaving soap.
But the pièce de résistance was the brush that they also gave me. It was my late Grandfather's. He died roughly 20 years ago, and my Grandmother had been holding on to it. She died about 5 years ago, and I guess it passed to my Mom, who had been keeping it, thinking that someday I might want it, but she never said anything to me about it. Well, when I began talking about wanting to get into traditional wet shaving, she thought it was perfect. It is a Rubberset Pure Badger brush, with I presume a plastic handle. I just think it is so cool to use the same brush that my Grandfather would have used 20+ years ago.
Anyway, I'm on my way with using a DE razor. So far I'd say, so good. I have had some good shaves, some not so good (hack jobs), but overall, I'm enjoying it.
