The Ever-Ready, Gem, and Star SE razors were largely made by the same company and in the same factory in Brooklyn, NY. Their 1912 models look similar, and they seem to shave similarly on my face.
But did the three brands have differing levels of prestige in the advertising and retail world, and with consumers? My impression is Ever-Ready had the reputation for being "high end," Gem was mid range, and Star (though it was the earliest brand) was the most pedestrian. Or to make an analogy with the General Motors cars of yesteryear, the Ever-Ready was considered the Cadillac, the Gem was the Oldsmobile, and the Star was the Chevrolet.
Do you think these three brands had different levels of prestige? If so, do you agree with my ranking of these brands? If not, what ranking would you suggest for these three brands, and why?
