I found something great from Schick with a good story to match

Last week I stumbled upon a listing on ebay for some unused Schick Repeating Razor blades. I have a the Type C "The Simplified Schick Automatic Razor." Actually the C2 with the closed comb, and I thought I would like to see it these old blades might still be good.

I contacted the seller and it turns out that his aunt, or I am thinking maybe a great aunt, was Aunt Schick. She was actually Florence Schick... married to Col. Schick and owners of the company. Apparently she would bring the blades to his grandfather when she visited. They sat in the grandfather's attic for some 50 years. Apparently there were boxes and boxed of them unused.

The boxes in the pictures looked to be in good shape without mold or water damage, so I thought I would give them a try. Each box has six magazines, each of which holds 20 blades... if you look closely the second to the last blade is a brass blank. That was to let you know that you were running out of blades in razor when the blank was loaded, and that you should go spend another 75 cents for a new tube of blades. I can imaging that with 20 blades and each lasting as long as they do in the injectors it would be easy to lose count.

I took off the clip that holds all of the blades together, and the whole magazine slipped right in. I worked the action and it pushed the modern Chick blade out and now it is loaded with a blade that was made just for this razor. It was a very cool feeling to have them matched up some 75+ years after they were made. Now that I have loaded them up, tomorrow I will give these New... Old blades a spin. I am hopeful that the blades have been kept dry, you can see in the lid that there is a cork disk, so I really think that any moisture should have been kept out.

In the end I got two boxes, 6 tubes each... for a total of 240 blades! If they don't still have an edge then I just have some cool pieces of history with a good story, but if they are still good then I pretty much have a lifetime supply of blades for my old Schick C2

Now I may need to go shopping for some more Schick Repeating Razors.

Let's block ads! (Why?)
