Per Ben's @rockclimber PIF, am here to do a review of Bain Amour Shave Soap. I also welcome the others of the BA PIF winners to post their reviews in here too. So, we don't get 10 review threads going, but if you wish to make your own thread that is fine by me.
This is my first ever review on B&B and it goes without saying my first real review at a shaving soap. As am going to start doing some for the passarounds soon. I think this will be a good way to start off my reviews. For the PIF had given us 3 scents of Bain Amour - Bay Rum, Southern Gentleman and Eucalyptus Peppermint Tea Tree. This review is based off of Bay Rum and will be just be placing the other two in the Scent category. Until, I decide to press the whole sample into a bowl or buy a full tin.

Scent - Just a small reminder I have only used BR of the 3. Because am still new to this world as am typing this, am on the BA site to get a scent description to understand what my nose is trying to understand what its smelling.
Bay Rum - Pre/Post lather 8/10 - I’ve only had one other BR scent and it really turned me off of the whole BR scent, but if I had only based anything off of a onetime experience I would not be here on B&B now. Much like how BA’s descriptions I have been able to smell all of the items on the list. If this is what BR really does smell like, it looks like am in it looks like I have another to add of my list of scents.
Southern Gentleman – Pre-Lather 8/10 – Again, a pleasant scent. If I do decide to buy a full tin, it would probably be SG or Deadly Weapon (as it peaks my interest but I’ve come to understand that I do not like how vetiver smells, so it on my “Gift” list and not my WTB.) Anyways, from the site my sniffer picks up the bergamot, lemon and maybe lilac and musk on quick whiffs, but from long draw out sniffs I can pick up the rest of the scents. Will be adding to my WTB list.
Eucalyptus Peppermint Tea Tree – Pre-Lather 8/10 – Eucalyptus is just not a scent for me. Much like the Vetiver scent, Eucalyptus just cannot be the star scent for me. Yes, I did rate it an 8/10 but I like to base the # on how strong the scent is and commit on how I like the scent. The eucalyptus is strong, but with a long draw I can get the peppermint and a hit of Tea Tree. To compare how strong the eucalyptus scent is about as strong as Dr. Harris. A bit happy to confirm another scent that doesn’t work for me as a staring scent.
Slickness – 8/10 - I like to play with my test lathers, I'll post a picture.
Protection/ Cushion – 8/10 - It is not as thick as I would like it, Will be giving it a 8 only because I believe that after I have dialed the soap in it would be much better. And its a sample and I didn't want to use a lot of it. The soap looked like it had a lot of thickness but to me, a bit thin. And its a really thirsty soap after I whipped up the lather I would just die after a min or 2. Again, would have to buy a full tin to really dial it in, plus to check the lather life.
Residual Slickness – 8/10
Post Shave/Moisturizing – 8/10 - Because its is a sample and I didn't need to be anywhere, I didn't use any AS or alum. It's taking me sometime to type its review out I want to say about an hr or 2 (am watching TV.) The Post save is great, my face and hands feels BBS WTG. I only did a 2 pass shave. I normal do a 3 pass and clean up.
Closeness of Shave – I toke this scale from an older post, as am still new to DE am just going to skip this one. As I still don’t know what it means.
Value – 10/10 - $8 + S&H for 3.5oz. in a tin, count me in. And an AS for other $8 even better for me.
I had to shave in my bedroom.
I only used a small amount of the sample. So, it didn't whip up as well as I would like. Again, It's my fault.
It looks really good on my WW.
Some test lather fun. Would have to really use the whole sample or buy a tin to really have some lather fun.
If this doesn't say slickness is good I don't know what will. I mean you can down right see my ridge lines on my whole hand.
